Her career included being a performer, performer and designer who broke through obstacles in the field. The Mexican-American singer was she was also a traditional. She was the first to bring Tejano into the mainstream of music. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. And as is common for a gifted, charming and young artist is lost too quickly, many mourned the potential that she could not yet achieve. In the years since, her admirers have been working more to keep in mind what she's accomplished. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena spawned a reaction in the Latino community that can be thought of as similar to the responses in the wake of the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena's music, an artist who was hugely success across Latino communities throughout North America touched people young as well as old. Selena was a hot glamorous performer on stage that was frequently referred to by her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was a strong role model as she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigns.
